There will not be a July Dixie Amateur Radio Club meeting held due to the proximity of the Utah Hamfest occuring this month on July 29-31, 2005. The Utah Hamfest (which is also this year's ARRL Rocky Mountain Division Convention) will be held at Ruby's Inn resort located just outside the entrance to Bryce Canyon National Park. We hope to see many of the Dixie Amateur Radio Club Members in attendence at this hamfest. There are activities and seminars for any possible interest you may have in ham radio. V.E.TESTING

A Volunteer Examiner (VE) test session will be held as advertised on
 Wednesday, July 20, 2005  at 6:00 P.M.
 at the FCAOG Office building location:
1070 West 1600 South, Building B
Tonaquint Center Business Park
St. George, Utah

The FCAOG building will be open at 5:45 P.M.
 for those coming for the test session.

The tesing will be held in the Small Executive Conference room.

  If you are a person desiring to take an Amateur Radio test or a ham wanting to upgrade this month,

Message From the President:

FIELD DAY 2005:  Many thanks to those vounteers and participants in this year's Amateur Radio Field Day exercise at Santa Clara's Canyon View Park. And thank you to the City of Santa Clara for the use over the past several years of this facility.  I am in the process of submitting the Field Day "Contest" application to ARRL and will have it sent out by this weekend.  It appears that over 540 contacts were made over the 24 hour exercise. From what I understand from participants, and a common phenomena in summertime, was somewhat up and down propagation on HF on Saturday. That is one of the values of the Field Day exercise to learn to tweak one's ears to hear weak signals and signals pulled out of poor band conditions.

UTAH HAMFEST/ROCKYMOUNTAIN DIVISION CONVENTION:  We should consider ourselves lucky to have the opportunity to attend a Division Convention so close to our own backyards. Even more important is the planned attendence and guest speaker, Riley Hollingsworth of the FCC Amateur Radio Enforcement Bureau.  As the pre-registration has passed, the cost for attending this Hamfest is now $12.00 per person.  The ham radio swap meet held in conjunction with the Hamfest is free (but bring your own tables).  This is a good opportnity to pick up those "must haves" for the ham shack or accessories for your mobile station.

Our club meetings for the 2nd half of the year will re-commence on August 17, 2005.

In the event that the 146.91 repeater is not operational we will conduct the Sunday evening net on 145.49.
If none of these repeaters are operational we will conduct the DARC Sunday net on 146.91 Simplex.
